Tendering transport, logistics and freight is a very good instrument to get the best prices from the market. But if this method is used all the time, year over year, your company will lose its credibility and in the long run will even pay higher rates.
I recently saved more than half a million euro by rescuing a large producing company from this process. It took a lot of courage to convince senior management by telling they were choking their own business without knowing it.
When you decide to look for new business partners, tendering is a fair and open instrument. If done properly your tender is distributed widely and enough time has been invested in the selection criteria of suppliers.
Besides that, your tender should not only request quotes, but you need to include a chapter quality, continuity and environment. When this part is forgotten one will often regret it later.
I have spent more than 20 years playing the cards both seller and buyer.
